ARIZONA — Ambassador Don Tapia, who served under President Trump, says he will support Governor Ron DeSantis for the 2024 Republican nomination if DeSantis decides to run.

The Arizona businessman says despite his position under the previous administration, Trump’s “name-calling” is turning away supporters.

“The name-calling has turned a lot of people off,” Tapia told Politico. “Let me tell you, we don’t like that.”

While DeSantis has yet to announce a presidential run, he is considered by many as a top contender to Trump in the Republican primary. Multiple groups are courting DeSantis hoping to convince him to run for president.

The governor is releasing an autobiography on February 28, entitled “The Courage to Be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival” – another sign he may be preparing an announcement.

Ambassador Tapia told Politico that he contributed more than six figures to Trump’s presidential campaign but has since donated more than $50,000 to DeSantis and hosted multiple fundraising events for the governor.
