ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA — The Guinness Book of World Records will likely not need to be updated on January 21 – now that LGBTQ activists have canceled their attempt at the largest recorded public event by men cross-dressing as women.
The Florida Standard first reported on the “World’s Largest Drag Queen Story Time” on December 14, and several other media outlets subsequently picked up the story. One week later, event organizers announced the event would be canceled.
The event’s Facebook page, which has since been deleted, advertised it as “a fabulous family-friendly celebration of literacy” that would be held at the Downtown Waterfront in St Pete. Plans for the event had been in the works for more than five years. As of December 14, the Facebook page showed that 224 people intended to go and 1,300 were considering it.
One post from the page revealed that the event would also include a progressive political demonstration, noting: “We'll kick the afternoon off with a short march to protest Florida's newest bigoted, oppressive and problematic policies. (Don't Say Gay, Stop Woke, the 15-week abortion ban, etc.) From there, we'll attempt to set the record for the World's Largest Drag Queen Story Time with Florida drag performers sharing stories and books with kids.”
“GAYS AGAINST GROOMERS” CELEBRATES CANCELLATION
Event organizers for the “World’s Largest Drag Queen Story Time” told The Florida Standard “we just don't have the resources or time to host such a large-scale event at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Gays Against Groomers, an activist group comprised of homosexuals who oppose the hyper-sexualization of children, tweeted: “GREAT NEWS! The world's largest drag queen story hour attempt that was to happen in St. Pete FL later this month has been CANCELED! We were setting up a huge protest for it, but we're very happy that it will no longer be taking place.”
