David Dewhirst Joins Governor’s Office as New Senior Advisor

With significant state and federal government experience ranging from trade and infrastructure to family and economic policy, Dewhirst takes a senior role on DeSantis’ advisory team.

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — Today, the governor’s office welcomed David Dewhirst as Senior Advisor to Governor Ron DeSantis. Dewhirst comes to Florida from Idaho, where he recently served as Chief Deputy Attorney General leading a team of 230 lawyers, investigators and support staff.

“David brings significant state and federal government experience advising on law and policy, and he’s worked on important issues ranging from trade and infrastructure to family and economic policy. We are excited to welcome him to the team,” Taryn Fenske, DeSantis’ communications director told The Florida Standard.

As solicitor general of the State of Montana, Dewhirst represented Montana in all matters before the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts of appeals, and in all civil matters before the Montana Supreme Court.

Dewhirst helped create and lead the public interest litigation group at the Freedom Foundation, where he litigated constitutional, labor, and campaign finance cases before federal and state courts and administrative agencies.

But Dewhirst is most known for his work on trade and anti-dumping policy in the Trump administration and his supervision of litigation related to the 2020 Census.
