DeSantis Calls Out Nikki Haley for George Floyd Sympathy, “Left-Wing Mindset”

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — Ron DeSantis ripped Nikki Haley for her comments following the death of George Floyd in 2020, accusing the former UN ambassador of having a “Left-wing mindset.”

During a radio interview in Haley’s home state of South Carolina on Tuesday, DeSantis questioned the former governor’s leadership – citing a post she made concerning Floyd’s death.

“I remember when the George Floyd riots were happening, I called out the National Guard,” DeSantis told radio host Tara Servatius. “I said, ‘I’m standing with police.’”

“She was tweeting that it needed to be personal and painful for every single person,” he continued. “I’m thinking to myself, ‘Why does that need to be personal and painful for you or me? We had nothing to do with it.’”

DeSantis was referring to Haley’s tweet from May 30, 2020.

Accusing Haley of embracing the media-driven narrative rather than fighting against it, DeSantis said he’s the only candidate with a track record of defeating Democrats.

“It just shows an example of her adopting this Left-wing mindset and accepting the narrative,” DeSantis said. “We need leaders who are going to fight the narrative. We need leaders who are going to fight back against the Left and beat the Left.”

On May 31, 2020, DeSantis activated 150 Florida National Guardsmen to assist and support local law enforcement across the state as the threat of riots increased.

Speaking at Universal Orlando Resort on June 3, 2020, DeSantis highlighted the number of people arrested at protests, noting that one individual was arrested for possessing a backpack full of mortars and another for trying to stab police officers with a syringe.

“Florida won’t tolerate rioting, looting or violence,” DeSantis said at the time.
