DES MOINES, IOWA — Ron and Casey DeSantis crashed Iowa State Representative Taylor Collins’ wedding on Saturday. The bride, Savannah Collins, invited the couple to attend but surprised her new husband, who endorsed DeSantis for president in May.
“You never know who will crash your wedding reception during caucus season!” Collins wrote on Twitter. “An honor to be on #TeamDeSantis.”
Cheers erupted as DeSantis and his wife strolled into the venue behind the newlyweds at the intimate reception in Iowa’s state capital. Florida’s first couple spent an hour mingling with about 150 guests.

DeSantis’ ambitious plan to visit all 99 Iowa counties to meet voters in person seems to be working. During his fifth visit to the Hawkeye State this weekend, DeSantis locked in an additional endorsement from Iowa State Rep. Tom Gerhold at Ashley Hinson’s BBQ on Sunday in Cedar Rapids.
“YOU’VE GOT TO SHOW UP”
DeSantis spent Friday and Saturday on a bus tour of northeast and central Iowa, answering questions and addressing voters in small groups.
“You’ve got to show up in people’s communities,” DeSantis told voters at Pizza Ranch restaurant in Tama, Iowa Saturday afternoon.
“I think anybody who’s not willing to do that is basically telling you that they don’t think they have to earn your vote,” DeSantis added. “And I think that’s a mistake.”
Kevin Brezina, a 66-year-old Tama resident, told the Des Moines Register his top choice for 2024 is DeSantis.
“I don’t think Trump is going to make it,” Brezina said. “I wish he’d bail out because of all this stuff that’s going on.”
