DeSantis Heard the Stories of 9/11 Victims’ Families on Memorial Day Weekend

The governor set aside time privately to listen to the stories of eight families who lost loved ones on 9/11.

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — On Saturday, Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis hosted a Memorial Day barbeque at the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee. Nearly 500 veterans, Gold Star families and those who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks attended the picnic.

“We’ve got a lot of great people here today. We are going to meet with some of the families from 9/11,” DeSantis told barbeque attendees at the mansion. “I’ll tell you that is one of the reasons I joined the military after that.”

The governor set aside time privately to listen to the stories of eight families who lost loved ones on 9/11.

“It was just so remarkable and gracious that the governor of Florida invited us to his home,” Brett Eagleson told the New York Post. “He gave us over an hour of his time and listened to every one of our stories.”

Eagleson said he was 15 years old when his father was killed as the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed on September 11, 2001. As president of 9/11 Justice – a grassroots movement of survivors, first responders, and family members of those who lost their lives that day – Eagleson is focused on uncovering the truth about 9/11.

Eagleson described the meeting with DeSantis as “very moving” with “a lot of tears.”

“This is such a hard fight… the family members are tired, they’re frustrated,” Eagleson told DeSantis. “We’ve had to fight our own government for transparency all this time.”
