TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — The DeSantis administration’s war on “woke” education celebrated another victory on Tuesday by exposing a handful of textbooks that were revised to meet state standards.
The Florida Department of Education highlighted 66 books that have been approved for use in public schools, spotlighting several that had to be revised before they were added to the adoption list.
MAKING SOCIALISM SOUND NICE
The governor’s press secretary Bryan Griffin posted a Twitter thread revealing the documented infractions of state law and policy.
🧵The political indoctrination of children through the K-12 public education system is a very real and prolific problem in this country.

Just look at some of these examples from textbooks submitted this year to @EducationFL. All CAUGHT & all FIXED under @GovRonDeSantis' watch.
One textbook asserted that socialism “keeps things nice and even and without necessary waste" and that it "may promote greater equality among people while still providing a fully functioning government-supervised economy.”
Another stated that “communism remains a theoretical ideal” and that there has never been a “true communist economy.”
BLM PROTESTS: PATRIOTIC AND NONVIOLENT?
The state removed a portion of one textbook that encouraged parents to talk to their child about kneeling for the National Anthem when discussing “symbols that represent America.”
Another textbook had to remove a section that whitewashed the deadly Black Lives Matter riots in 2020, suggesting that the protests were not to blame for “incidences of violence and looting.”
SOCIAL JUSTICE IN HOLY WRIT
The state also flagged a textbook that implied that the Bible endorsed “social justice” concepts by suggesting that the movement advocates for “respecting human life, giving generously, caring for strangers and refugees, and respecting property.”
The section was revised to remove the term “social justice,” given that the movement calls for radical government policies to ensure equal outcomes.
