DeSantis’ Popularity Grows In South Carolina

Florida’s governor adds another stop in South Carolina after endorsement by South Carolina Rep. Bill Hixon (R-North Augusta).

AUGUSTA, SOUTH CAROLINA — Ron DeSantis will return to South Carolina on Thursday for a campaign event in Augusta. The appearance will be DeSantis’ fourth stop in the Palmetto State since he announced his presidential campaign.

Previous stops in Beaufort, Lexington and Greenville were so popular that some voters were not permitted entry due to packed venues. At the Lexington stop, South Carolina Rep. Bill Hixon (R-North Augusta) endorsed DeSantis in the race, prompting Florida’s governor to add another stop in Augusta.

Speaking to hundreds of people packed into a restaurant patio during his last visit, DeSantis told supporters that it could take eight years in the Oval Office to reverse the damage caused by President Joe Biden’s policies. He also said he would begin to dismantle the decades-long “accumulation of power in a bureaucracy that is detached from the interests of the American people” beginning on day one.

Augusta will host DeSantis at 2:00 pm on Thursday at the Riverview Park Activity Center. The 2024 South Carolina Republican primary will be held Feb. 24, 2024.
