DeSantis Says He’s Targeted By Left and Right: “They Want To Keep the Status Quo”
TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — Ron DeSantis says he’s being attacked by both the Right and the Left because of his leadership on issues that matter to conservatives across the nation. The presidential hopeful says he has the discipline – as evidenced by his record in Florida – to deliver “big wins” for conservatives.
“They’ve seen me actually execute on this agenda,” DeSantis told political commentator Mark Levin on Thursday. “Everything I said I would do as governor, I have delivered, and these are big wins on illegal immigration, on education, on the economy, on reducing our debt, on and on down the line, things that really, really matter to Floridians and to conservatives nationally.”
In June, DeSantis said he would “break the swamp” and “fight for ideas that matter” – ideas that have worked in Florida. But after his fourth major policy announcement and a pledge to give Americans relief from inflation, DeSantis says he’s being targeted by those who want to “keep the status quo.”
AMERICANS ARE STRUGGLING
The cost of living continues to rise in America, and many families are struggling to make ends meet. Wage stagnation and inflation have made it difficult for families to keep up with the cost of necessities like housing, gas and food. Millions of hardworking Americans are looking for relief during uncertain economic times.
“Researchers estimate, for example, that 80 percent of families saw the share of budgets dedicated to spending on needs such as housing and health care increase by more than 7 percentage points, potentially crowding out spending on other categories, like leisure, longer-term investments in education, and saving for retirement,” according to a 2021 brief by the Council of Economic Advisers.
Inflation has also significantly increased the cost of living. In July, consumer prices were 3.2 percent higher than the year before, making it more difficult for families to afford their basic needs.
BIDEN’S ANTI-ENERGY AGENDA
“Energy dominance, using the resources we have, that is one way to reduce prices at the pump, which is hurting people, but also prices throughout the economy because energy prices permeate the cost of goods, and it affects businesses,” DeSantis said.
The larger context, DeSantis explained, is that energy dominance also helps our national security. Biden’s anti-energy agenda is benefiting Iran, Russia, Venezuela and China – but not America.
“We’re also now in a situation where this is the worst inflation and the highest cost families have faced in America for many decades,” DeSantis said. “And they’re getting hit from all sides.”
“Just think about his push to force people to do electric vehicles,” DeSantis said. “Where do the minerals and the things that they mined, where does that come from to go into the batteries and whatnot? Most of it comes from China, and so it makes Americans more reliant on China.”
