FLORIDA — On Tuesday, Governor Ron DeSantis called a plea deal agreement between Hunter Biden and the Department of Justice (DOJ) a “sweetheart deal.”
“Looks like Hunter received a sweetheart deal and is not facing any charges on the massive corruption allegations,” DeSantis tweeted on his political account. “If Hunter was not connected to the elite DC class he would have been put in jail a long time ago.”
DeSantis also linked to a video clip where he explained that there are “two different sets of rules depending on whether you’re a member in good standing of elite society or not.”

A FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY
DeSantis’ presidential campaign used the news as a fundraising opportunity, calling for the end of a “two-tiered system of justice.” An email sent to supporters on Tuesday begins with DeSantis’ quote: “If Hunter Biden were a Republican, he would have been in jail years ago.”
“And now we’ve learned that Hunter Biden has received a sweetheart deal and is not facing any charges on the massive corruption allegations that have been made against him,” the email read. “We need to end the two-tiered system of justice once and for all.”
“If we don’t defeat Joe Biden and the corrupt left in this next election, you can only expect to see more of the left’s abuse of power,” the email continues. “This only stops if we elect Governor Ron DeSantis as our next president.”
“TWO-TIERED SYSTEM OF JUSTICE”
Court documents filed Tuesday said that Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to two charges of failing to pay income taxes. He also entered a pretrial agreement over possessing a firearm as an illicit drug user.
Other Republicans, including former president Trump, have slammed the deal as another example of Democrats receiving lighter or no consequences for illegal activity compared to Republicans.
But Hunter Biden’s attorney Chris Clark brushed off claims that the president’s son received favorable treatment.
“This was a five-year, very diligent investigation pursued by incredibly professional prosecutors, some of whom have been career prosecutors, one of whom at least was appointed by President Trump,” Clark told Katy Tur during an appearance on MSNBC.
