Donald Trump Meets “Fake” Auto Workers in Michigan

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN — As his challengers headed to debate in California, former President Trump traveled to Michigan where he said he would meet with auto workers on strike.

Local outlets report that he never stood in front of the picket line with Big Three employees – instead, he spoke at a non-union parts manufacturing plant at an invite-only event, where only a few union members allegedly were in attendance. Or perhaps – none at all?

"I side with auto workers of America and with those who want to make America great again, and I always will," Trump said and proceeded to attack President Biden’s economic policies and the problems with electric cars.

The day before, on Wednesday, auto workers had dismissed both Biden’s and Trump’s visits – wanting them to stay away from Detroit and refrain from more politicization and division over the labor dispute. UAW boss Shawn Fain called it a “pathetic irony” that Trump would visit a non-union plant and refused to meet with the former president.

“I don’t think the man has any bit of care about what our workers stand for, what the working class stands for,” Fain told CNN. “He serves the billionaire class and that’s what’s wrong with this country.”

On Thursday, reports started coming out that some holding signs in the crowd at Trump’s event may not even have been real auto workers.

In a call to union leaders, Trump said that they would not have a union if they don’t endorse him in the 2024 presidential election.

“They have to endorse Trump, because if they don’t, all they’re doing is committing suicide,” the former commander-in-chief said.

“Shawn,” Trump said, referring to the UAW president, “endorse Trump and you can take a nice two month vacation, come back, and you guys are going to be better than you ever were. The other way, you won’t have a vacation, Shawn. And in a short period of time, you’re not going to have a union. You’re not going to have jobs. You’re not going to have anything.”
