Flag on the Play: Gavin Newsom Interrupts Football Game to Defend Baby Killing
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA — California Governor Gavin Newson hit Ron DeSantis over abortion ahead of their anticipated debate on Fox News later this month.
In a 30-second spot that ran during Sunday night football between the San Francisco 49ers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Newsom blasted DeSantis for signing a six-week abortion ban in Florida back in April.
In the ad – paid for by Newsom’s Campaign for Democracy PAC – a woman and a doctor are shown facing arrest “by order of Gov. Ron DeSantis” for obtaining an abortion.
“Abortion after six weeks will be punishable by up to five years in prison, even though many women don’t even know they’re pregnant at six weeks,” Newsom says in the ad. “That’s not freedom. It’s Ron DeSantis’ Florida.”
Any woman who has an abortion after six weeks -- and any doctor who gives her care -- will be guilty of a felony.

PRE-DEBATE STRIKES
The ad will air again on NFL Sunday Night Football in Florida and Washington, D.C. television markets and on Sean Hannity’s show leading up to the November 30 debate between the two governors. Hannity will moderate the 90-minute face-off in Georgia during his show on Fox News.
The debate comes amid a contentious GOP presidential contest and presents a unique look at red-state vs. blue-state governing styles during a political season dominated by former President Trump’s campaign and his legal challenges in Florida, New York, Washington, D.C., and Georgia.
While the ideological clashes between the two governors have elevated their respective profiles, there are rumors that the charismatic California governor may be running a shadow presidential campaign – in the event that President Biden drops out.
DeSantis also posted a video on X, criticizing the decline of California and promoting Florida.
“Decline is a choice and success is attainable,” DeSantis said in the post. “As president, I will lead America’s revival. I look forward to the opportunity to debate Gavin Newsom over our very different visions for the future of our country.”
