Gavin Newsom is Running a Shadow Campaign for President: DeSantis
MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE — Ron DeSantis says California Governor Gavin Newsom is “running a shadow campaign,” claiming many Democrats want to move Biden out of the White House.
Taking a break from helping out at a Thanksgiving food drive in New Hampshire this morning, DeSantis told Fox & Friends that Republicans may not be running against Biden.
“You could have Harris, you could have Newsom, you could have a lot of different people,” DeSantis said. “I think it’s important that Republican voters get the sense that we may not be running against Biden.”
The Florida governor warned that California cities have collapsed under Newsom's leadership, causing a mass exodus from the Golden State.
“That is what he would want to do for this entire country,” DeSantis said. “And it would accelerate the collapse we’ve seen under Joe Biden. So, the stakes are really high for America.”
In a preview of what we might see during his debate with the California governor next week, DeSantis contrasted Florida and California.
“They’re leaving California because they can’t even keep the streets safe – unless President Xi Jinping from China comes, then they clean everything up,” DeSantis said. “But other than that, people live in squalor.”

“I think it’s an important debate for the country,” DeSantis added. “And yes, he is looming to potentially run for the Democrats. So, we’ve got to be ready for that.”
Promising to lead America the way he governs Florida, DeSantis said if elected, he would immediately declare an emergency at the southern border, reverse Bidenomics, lower gas prices and interest rates and “open up the floodgates” to create energy dominance in the U.S.
The debate between DeSantis and Newsom will occur in Alpharetta, Georgia, on November 30 without a studio audience. The 90-minute face-off will air on Fox News at 9:00 pm ET.
