Hillsborough Schools Spends Taxpayer Dollars on Book of Pedo Poet’s Sex Fantasies

TAMPA, FLORIDA — The obscene writings of a man who supported and defended pedophilia are available to students in Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) and they were purchased with money from local taxpayers.

Biographies of Allen Ginsberg and books containing his poetry are available in libraries at numerous high schools in the district. Additionally, a book chronicling the life and works of several poets, including Ginsberg, is available at three middle schools.

Ginsberg was a member of the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) – a group that advocates for removing age of consent laws along with legal and social toleration of grown men who want to have sex with children.

One of Ginsberg’s longtime friends, Andrea Dworkin, insisted that he engaged in pedophilia. 

In her book Heartbreak: The Political Memoir of a Feminist Militant, Dworkin writes: “In fact, [Ginsberg] was a pedophile. He did not belong to the North American Man/Boy Love Association out of some mad, abstract conviction that its voice had to be heard. He meant it. I take this from what Allen said directly to me, not from some inference I made. He was exceptionally aggressive about his right to [f**k] children and his constant pursuit of underage boys.”

Ginsberg was never charged with violating any children himself. He denied ever doing so, but he publicly defended those who did.

GINSBERG’S “POETRY”

Sections in Ginsberg’s Collected Poems – available in Alonso, Freedom and Middleton High Schools – includes X-rated descriptions of sexual encounters. In some of his poetry, the age of the sexual partners is unclear – but one poem employs repeated use of the word “Master,” implying sexual bondage and submission.

Portions of that poem can be read below, but the reader should be warned that the text includes graphic and obscene language.

Hillsborough County Schools did not return a request for comment.

BOARD TELLS PARENTS TO FILL OUT PAPERWORK

For nearly two years, parents have been bringing to the school board their concerns of pornographic books available to students in school libraries. Rather than taking direct action to remove the books, the district has told parents they must go through a formal challenge process if they want any books removed.

The challenge process can take months and parents may only challenge one book at a time. Additionally, if successful, the challenge would have to be repeated at every individual school that houses the book in order to remove all copies from the district.
