How Reliable Are Mainstream Presidential Polls?
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — Ron DeSantis is casting doubt on a new poll placing former President Donald Trump ahead of Joe Biden by ten points.
“Just understand… the media – if he ends up being the nominee – they will not be putting polls out like that, it’ll be the opposite,” DeSantis DeSantis told Newsmax in an interview. “I mean, they use this to juice a narrative.”
POLLS TO “JUICE A NARRATIVE”
The Washington Post/ABC News poll shows Trump leading Biden among voters under 35 by 20 points, something DeSantis says is a narrative to push Trump as the de facto nominee.
“I think people were showing that that poll had Trump beating Biden with under 35 by 20 points: No Republican has even won that, so when you see that you wonder, okay, what are they trying to do?” DeSantis said.
“I think they’re trying to do two things. I think the corporate press does want Trump to be the nominee. I think you see that in the coverage of that. I think you also see that in how they attack me. But I also think they’re trying to get the Democrats to dislodge Biden.”
“CORPORATE PRESS” INFLUENCE
DeSantis says the “corporate press” aims to turn Democrats away from Biden in hopes of another candidate, like California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom, entering the race.
“They want to show that Biden is weak, and they would like to see a Newsom or somebody else,” DeSantis said. “So I think when the corporate press is doing this, I think people should take it with a grain of salt, absolutely.”
DeSantis has previously said that Trump would not be electable if convicted in one of his four upcoming trials.
“I think the chance of getting elected president after being convicted of a felony is as close to zero as you can get,” said DeSantis on CBS Evening News. “I didn’t think even before all this, that the former president should have run again. I mean, I think that there’s too many voters… he’s a deal breaker for them.”
DESANTIS VS. NEWSOM
DeSantis challenged Newsom in June after The Florida Standard asked him if he would debate the California governor.
“But what I would tell him is, you know what, stop pussyfooting around,” DeSantis quipped. “Are you going to throw your hat in the ring and challenge Joe?”
The red state and blue state governors will face off in Georgia on November 30 at 9:00 pm ET on Fox News. DeSantis says Americans moving away from California and to Florida have shown that people have already voted “with their feet.”
Biden will not just “step down willingly,” DeSantis explained. “I think it’s harder to dislodge somebody who’s an incumbent president and people assume it would be – but I think the Democrat establishment really, really is concerned, particularly, you know, if they have to run against somebody like me.”
“I think that their view on Trump is that he will help energize their base to come out in ways that maybe some other Republicans won’t.”
