ATLANTA, GEORGIA — Never Back Down – a super PAC supporting Ron DeSantis – goes on offense against former President Donald Trump in a new ad that targets Trump for his attack on Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.
The 30-second spot, released in the Hawkeye State, calls Reynolds “a conservative champion” and draws attention to Trump’s statement that she’s no longer invited to any of his campaign events.
“Why is Donald Trump attacking her?” the ad says. “Trump should attack Democrats, not Republicans. What happened to Donald Trump?”
The move is the first TV spot from a pro-DeSantis political committee that targets Trump directly. But in a twist, it uses AI to recreate Trump’s voice to read out the Truth Social post that caused the spat between Trump and Reynolds.
Politico reported that a person familiar with the ad confirmed Trump’s voice was AI generated. Trump spokesman, Chris LaCivita, mocked the use of artificial intelligence in the commercial, calling it an attempt to “deceive the American public.”
Trump is scheduled to appear in Cedar Rapids, Iowa today at a town hall event hosted by Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
The ad mirrors a blitz this week by the Republic Accountability PAC. The anti-Trump organization ran ads on Fox News with a similar message – that Trump should “focus on his own campaign, not trashing Governor Reynolds.”
Under federal law, super PACs – political organizations that are allowed to raise unlimited amounts of money from corporations and individuals – may not coordinate with candidates’ official campaigns. The official DeSantis campaign did not immediately respond to The Florida Standard’s request for comment.
