TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed SB 7050, Elections, which exempts him from having to resign his role as Florida’s governor in order to run for President of the United States.
The exemption carved out in Florida law by the Republican supermajority allows DeSantis to campaign and continue to govern the state of Florida throughout the primaries and the general election in November 2024.
After signing the bill Wednesday afternoon, DeSantis filed the official paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission to notify them of his intent to campaign for president.
An additional 20 bills were signed by the governor today, including laws related to domestic violence, local government comprehensive plans, consumer protections and felony charges related to releasing non-native venomous reptiles.
