TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — Today, the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) released an analysis of statewide and judicial circuit-specific data related to juvenile case processing times.
Florida’s ninth judicial circuit, led by Soros-backed Orange County State Attorney Monique Worrell, had the worst processing time for juveniles. The data sheds light on the recent case involving 19-year-old Keith Moses who is accused of killing an Orlando journalist, a young girl, and a woman in a string of shootings in a Pine Hills neighborhood in February.

Worrell quickly moved into the governor’s crosshairs after the deadly rampage, leading the governor to open an investigation. DeSantis’ general counsel Ryan Newmann told Worrell in a letter that Moses should never have been in a position to commit the senseless shootings in Pine Hills.
Case processing time refers to the period of time that passes from when a youth is arrested to disposition or when the court determines the outcome and sanctions imposed. Long case processing times indicate that juveniles are not being held accountable for their actions in a timely manner, impacting public safety by preventing access to necessary behavioral treatments and services.

“The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice recognizes the importance of addressing critical areas of concerns within our system through data-driven decision-making,” said DJJ Secretary Eric Hall. “This critical issue is an important piece of the puzzle that must be addressed to meet the needs of Florida’s youth and keep our communities safe.”
