Statement in Response to Governor DeSantis’ Executive Order Targeting the CCP

Today was a huge win for Governor DeSantis and the Florida legislature, who took action against Chinese Communist Party (CCP) influence in our state, writes Carlos Trujillo.

Today was a huge win for Governor DeSantis and the Florida legislature, who took action against Chinese Communist Party (CCP) influence in our state, writes Carlos Trujillo.

The CCP has actively been trying to expand its power since the Cold War, by manipulating, stealing, and taking over U.S. technology, land, and our institutions of higher education. Today’s executive order bans state government entities in Florida from purchasing any technology from nefarious countries such as China, Iran, Russia, and Cuba.

Protecting our state networks is crucial so that Floridians’ information and data aren't compromised by nefarious actors – this also ensures that our hardware and systems are American-made. Today's announcement and legislative agenda is a huge step in mitigating the CCP influence – not only in Florida, but across the country.

Governor DeSantis and his administration continue to demonstrate strong leadership against the CCP. While the Biden Administration and Charlie Crist negotiate policies and lift sanctions on communist countries such as Venezuela, Cuba, and Colombia (which welcome the CCP with open arms), Governor DeSantis protects Floridians' freedom and values, and it's clear that he does not and will not stand for or with communism.

Carlos Trujillo served as Ambassador to the Organization of American States after he was appointed to the post in 2017 by President Trump. Prior, Trujillo served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives for eight years.
