The onslaught from Hurricane Ian continued throughout Florida on Thursday, after devastating the southwestern part of the state on Wednesday. Millions are without power and thousands of homes are flooded. Although Ian was downgraded after making landfall and has now reached the Atlantic Ocean, parts of Northeast Florida are still experiencing storm surge.
Breathtaking footage of the storm’s devastating effects, from the Suncoast to the First Coast, are reaching the screens of Americans across the country. Below are some of the most heart-wrenching pictures and videos from the last 24 hours.

Downtown Saint Augustine is flooded. This was two hours ago and it’s still raining and frequent wind gusts. #hurricaneian pic.twitter.com/XzKRWx0Wxs
1pm update #SaintAugustine. Some areas reporting surge heights meeting or exceeding #Hurricane Matthew in 2016. Not quite there yet in this location but inching closer. About 5-6 feet of surge near US-1 and King Street. #wx #flwx #Ian pic.twitter.com/Vu5BOXTBW7

#HurricaneIan completely shattered a lighting store called “Light Ideas” along Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte, Charlotte County. A sheriff’s deputy says this is one of the worst scenes he’s come across today. No power anywhere. Locals call it a “war zone.” pic.twitter.com/py6K3n20rq
