Trump Mugshot Creates Social Media Firestorm

Commentators re-posted the phrase that Trump once used on the campaign trail: “In reality, they’re not after me. They’re after you. I'm just in the way.”

ATLANTA, GEORGIA — Former President Donald Trump turned himself in at the Fulton County, Georgia jail last night – and his mugshot was subsequently released to the public, causing an internet firestorm.

Trump – after making a comeback at X, formerly known as Twitter – posted an image of his mugshot with the brief comment “Election Interference, Never Surrender.” It was his first post on the platform in approximately two and a half years after his account was suspended.

The reaction to the mugshot among Republican presidential candidates varied from lukewarm to heated.

From the campaign trail in Iowa, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis simply said: “Well I’m glad I’m at the Field of Dreams. I’m happy to be here.”

On Fox & Friends, former South Carolina Governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley was more outspoken.

“I think it’s a sad day in America,” Haley said. “I think it’s disgraceful. I mean, the idea that we’re seeing a mugshot of a 77-year-old former president. I mean, how did we get to this point?”

After Trump was booked and released, his motorcade drove through portions of Atlanta’s urban neighborhoods where residents lined the streets, cheering and shouting: “Free Trump!”.

President Joe Biden also posted to X that “today's a great day to give to my campaign.” The post caused a backlash by critics saying Biden was “spiking the football” by campaigning off of Trump’s arrest.

Other online commentators re-posted the phrase that Trump once used on the campaign trail: “In reality, they’re not after me. They’re after you. I'm just in the way.”

Leftist mainstream media outlets – like Rolling Stone – posted gloating comments over seeing Trump arrested and his mugshot released.

Trump is facing an array of legal challenges – including the most recent fourth indictment – following his departure from the Oval Office. These charges, voters say, reflect political retribution from the Left and the Deep State.

The judge presiding over the case, Judge Tanya Chutkan, is a recent appointee of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. She has yet to set a date for the trial of Trump and his 19 co-defendants.
